Passenger dies after pick-up overturns

RUNDU, 15 JUN (NAMPA) – A 73-year-old woman died when the pick-up she and three other people travelled in overturned at Sikanduko village in the Kavango East Region on Monday.
The incident took place at around 11h00.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s acting Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator for Kavango East, Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Wednesday the driver was unlicensed and was driving towards the north of Namibia when the vehicle overturned.
The deceased, who has been identified as Lena Tjangano, was seated on the back of the pick-up. The two other passengers including the driver survived the accident with minor injuries and were rushed to the Rundu State Hospital.
The driver has been identified as a 26-year-old resident of Kehemu settlement in Rundu. His name cannot be disclosed.
Mubebe said NamPol is waiting for a response from the Prosecutor-General on whether to open a case of homicide against the driver.
