Woman raped, assaulted at Eenhana

WINDHOEK, 12 JUN (NAMPA) – A 20-year-old woman was raped before being hit in the face with a rock in the Eenhana area on Saturday.
Speaking at the weekly crime briefing here on Sunday, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson Inspector Slogan Matheus said the victim was on her way home from church when the suspect approached her, grabbed her by the neck and overpowered her.
The 17-year-old suspect allegedly forced the victim to the ground, raped her and then hit her on the forehead with a rock.
She sustained an open cut to the forehead.
The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Another rape case was reported to the Khorixas Police Station on Saturday, after a 15-year-old girl was raped at a bar in Twyfelfontein.
The incident occurred at about 20h00. The 27-year-old suspect allegedly met the victim at the bar and raped her on the premises.
The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Khorixas Magistrate's Court on Monday.
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man drowned after his canoe capsized in the Zambezi river near Balasinte at Impalila Island in the Zambezi Region Friday night.
Malumba Ernest Songa died after his canoe capsized while he had been checking on his fishing nets.
His next of kin were informed and police investigations continue.
In the Omusati Region, a boy of one year and six months old drowned in a container of home brew (tombo) at Okathima KaNangolo village in the Okalongo Constituency on Friday.
He has been identified as Antonia Timoteus Amunyela.
The incident took place at about 14h00 at a shebeen.
The grandmother of the toddler allegedly left him on his own while she went to another, nearby shebeen.
Upon her return, she found that the boy had drowned in the home brew container.
Police investigations continue.
