WINDHOEK, 08 JUN (NAMPA) - Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti made three changes to the team ahead of their friendly match against Malawi at the Sam Nujoma Stadium Wednesday night.
Namibia is using the friendly match as preparation for the Council of Southern African Football Association (Cosafa) Cup set for Windhoek from 11 to 25 June. Namibia is the defending champion and will play its first match of the competition against Botswana on 18 June.
The match against Malawi will commence at 19h00.
Mannetti brought in Terdius Uiseb for Peter Shalulile; Rian Hanamub for Benson Shilongo and Absalom IImbondi for Deon Hotto.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, the coach said he has picked a team that he expects to attack, and at the same time get all players’ fitness at the same level ahead of their clash against Botswana.
“Today I decided to rest some players and give an opportunity to those who did not play when we played Niger on Saturday. Our aim still remains the same, and that is winning all our games whether friendlies or at Cosafa.
“I want to have all the players at the same fitness level because when the tournament kicks off we don’t want to be unsure about whether to use the players on the bench or not. We want all players to be competitive,” said Mannetti.
Namibia beat Niger 1-0 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The starting squad is as follows:
Goalkeeper - Maximillian Mbaeva
Defenders - Ananias Gebhardt; Da Costa Angula; Ferdinand Karongee; and Larry Horaeb
Midfielders - Wangu Gomes; Dynamo Fredricks, Rian Hanamub, Absalom IImbodi and Denzil Haoseb
Forward - Terdius Uiseb
