Third Defence Force Foundation annual sport tourney concludes

OTJIWARONGO, 04 JUN (NAMPA) – A weeklong Defence Force Foundation (DFF) annual sport tournament concluded here on Thursday with the handing over of awards to the winners.
The tournament kicked off on 27 May at Otjiwarongo's Mokati Stadium.
The uniformed men and women took part in netball, volleyball, football and pool.
The winners and prizes are:
Netball –
1 - Navy (floating trophy, 16 gold medals and N.dollars 3 000)
2 - 21 Infantry Brigade (16 silver medals and N.dollars 1 500)
3 – Namibian Defence Force (NDF) 4 Artillery Brigade (16 bronze medals plus N.dollars 800)

Volleyball –
1 - 21 Infantry Brigade (floating trophy, 16 gold medals and N.dollars 3 000)
2 - Navy (16 silver medals with N.dollars 1 500)
3 - Reconnaissance Regiment (Recce Regt) (16 bronze medals and N.dollars 800)

Football –
1 – NDF 4 Artillery Brigade (floating trophy, 25 gold medals and N.dollars 5 000)
2 - Composite Depot from Windhoek (25 silver medals and N.dollar 2 500)
3 - 21 Brigade (25 bronze medals and N.dollars 1 000)

Pool –
1 - AD Brigade (floating trophy, two gold medals and N.dollars 900)
2 - 12 Brigade (two silvers medals and N.dollars 600)
3 - Army Provost (two bronze medals and N.dollars 400)
Army Commander, Major-General Nghilifavali Nopoudjuu Hamunyela, who officiated at the handing over ceremony, encouraged the men and women of the NDF to continue engaging in sport activities as it is not only aimed at competing and winning, but also provides physical fitness among the soldiers, which is a basic requirement of military life.
In his short closing remarks, the Commander of the Land Forces Hamunyela encouraged those who did not reach the finals not to feel disappointed as they did their best and “there is always a next time”.
