Inmate who hanged himself is Bryan Rickerts: NamPol

WINDHOEK, 03 JUN (NAMPA) - The inmate, who committed suicide in the Katutura Intermediate Hospital on Wednesday, has been identified as Bryan Rickerts.
The 37-year-old Rickerts was hospitalised in the Tuberculosis Ward under the guard of correctional services staff when he ended his life by hanging himself from the window burglar bars with a piece of bed sheet at about 22h40.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus confirmed the identity of the deceased upon enquiry by Nampa on Friday afternoon.
No suicide note was left behind.
The deceased’s family have been informed.
Rickerts, who was from Rehoboth, was serving a 40-year jail sentence for the fatal stabbing of Shaun Roderick Beukes at a shebeen in Rehoboth's Block E residential area on 07 February 2014.
He was sentenced by High Court Judge Christie Liebenberg on 04 May 2016.
Rickerts had two other previous convictions for violent crimes involving knives, both committed during 1999, of which he had also served prison terms.
Windhoek-based defence lawyer Milton Engelbrecht represented Rickerts during trial.
