OTJIWARONGO, 31 MAY (NAMPA) - A 51-year-old man died instantly on Tuesday when he lost control over a pick-up he was driving on the road between Kalkfeld and Otjiwarongo. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to a halt.
The accident occurred approximately 30 kilometres south-west of Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region at about 11h30.
“We suspect the vehicle had a front left tyre burst causing the driver to lose control over it and subsequently roll several times before coming to a halt,” Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Head of Crime Investigations Unit (CIU) for the Otjiwarongo District, Inspector Ursula Molongwane told Nampa at the accident scene.
Molongwane said the driver was thrown out of the vehicle into the bushes and died on the spot.
The name of the deceased is known but cannot be revealed as his close relatives were yet to be informed.
A sole male passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital in critical condition.
Police investigations continue.
