Trade ministry wants to work with //Kharas businesspeople

KEETMANSHOOP, 31 MAY (NAMPA) – Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, Immanuel Ngatjizeko says the time has come for local investors to participate in the development of natural resources in the //Kharas Region.
In a speech read on his behalf at the Karasburg Trade Fair on Friday, Ngatjizeko said the region was endowed with natural resources, creating numerous opportunities in which diversification and value addition could take place.
In this context, he invited businesspeople from the region to approach his ministry to explore the prospects.
“I advise that local businesspeople work closely with our ministry to identify and look at ways to exploit opportunities in the natural resource sector,” Ngatjizeko said in his speech, availed to Nampa on Monday.
He said his ministry was busy conducting value chain analysis and sector studies across the country while also identifying business opportunities in the various regions.
“We are in each region and we invite submissions of investment proposals,” the minister said.
He called on young people at the trade fair to apply for entrepreneurial support provided by the trade ministry.
“I hope you will approach our offices to obtain more information on the entrepreneurship support programme and others we have on offer. We are ready to help you within our mandate,” Ngatjizeko said.
He said the ministry had in place programmes aimed at assisting entrepreneurs with advisory services such as business plan formulation, conducting of feasibility studies, providing of mentorship services, training and provision of equipment – amongst others.
The Equipment Aid Scheme helps small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to acquire manufacturing equipment needed to increase production potential.
Ngatjizeko said his ministry was working on strengthening existing ties with SMEs in the country to encourage open dialogue between government institutions and the private sector.
“This supports our Growth at Home strategy while also helping SMEs to successfully graduate to being business champions.”
The third Karasburg Trade Fair and Festival this year was held under the theme “Promoting Local Economic Development and Financial Stability”.
