OUTAPI, 19 SEP (NAMPA) – A member of Namibian Navy allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend at the Tobias Hainyeko location at Outapi in the Omusati Region on Thursday before committing suicide with the same pistol.
Sergeant Heskiel Hamalwa of the public relations unit of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region confirmed this to Nampa on Thursday afternoon.
The Naval officer, identified as 33-year-old Petrus Kashimba, was stationed at Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region.
Police identified the girlfriend as Vistorina Nandjamba Amunyela, 30.
Amunyela was from the Epumbu village of the Okahao District, and a teacher at the Omuulukila Combined School (CS) in the Omusati Region. Kashimba was from the Iilambo village, also in the Okahao District.
The motive behind the killing was not immediately known.
“The man entered the girlfriend’s bedroom at about 07h00 this morning, but it was not known where he came from,” Hamalwa explained, adding that he shot and killed her in the shower while she was preparing to go to work.
Kashimba allegedly shot himself in the head inside the same room, and died instantly.
He allegedly fired six bullets at Amunyela, and so far only two are confirmed to have struck her in the neck and chest.
A few years ago, a NDF soldier travelled from Windhoek to Okahao, also in the Omusati Region, where he gunned down his girlfriend before turning the same firearm on himself and killing himself.
