Hit-and-run suspect arrested

WINDHOEK, 24 MAY (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Serious Crime Investigations Unit has arrested a man who allegedly ran over a child in Katutura residential area at the weekend.
The 54-year-old man, whose identity cannot be made public as he is yet to appear before court, was Monday arrested by the Police at his home in Okahandja Park informal settlement.
He will be facing a main charge of culpable homicide in respect of the accident on 21 May 2016 that claimed the life of the two-year-old girl.
NamPol's spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the arrest of the suspect to Nampa on Tuesday.
According to Shikwambi, the suspect will also face a second charge of driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver's licence.
He is expected to make his first court appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court along Mungunda Street in Katutura during the course of this week.
The two-year-old girl died Saturday at the Lady Pohamba Private Hospital after she was rushed there following the accident.
The 54-year-old suspect has been on the run since the accident.
