OSHIKUKU, 18 MAY (NAMPA) - The Omusati Regional Council wants all regional and local authorities to promote the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) which aims to reduce poverty levels and inequality in the country.
Besides being team players, Council Chairperson of Modestus Amutse wants to see the Omusati regional political office bearers and administrative officials implement development projects outlined under the HPP and the ruling Swapo-party’s elections manifesto.
Amutse made the call while addressing Omusati regional council members, mayors and chief executive officers of local authorities in the region here on Tuesday.
The Omusati RC chairperson used the same platform to demand more money to be allocated to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development for its task of rural development.
He believes rural development benefits everybody and has the potential to address increasing urbanisation which is becoming a burden in terms of the provision of government services to town dwellers.
Amutse also called on local authorities in the region to always keep the office of the regional governor updated with their development programmes.
“Let us keep the governor’s office updated on what every local authority is busy with. We plan for one region, hence the importance for us to share the information,” Amutse noted.
It was the first time Amutse hosted a working lunch meeting for the regional councillors, mayors and CEOs of the local authorities since he became chairperson of the Omusati RC last year.
