OTJIWARONGO, 12 MAY (NAMPA) - Founding President Dr Sam Nujoma’s 87th birthday will be celebrated with a number of activities on his farm on Friday, including a narration of his life story by Nujoma himself.
Those attending the festivities on Farm Etunda outside Otavi in the Otjozondjupa Region will have the opportunity to listen to the story of Nujoma’s life around a fire, Swapo party region co-ordinator for Otjozondjupa Susan Hikopua told Nampa on Wednesday.
Nujoma played an important role as a leader in Namibia’s struggle for liberation from South African colonial rule.
He was born on 12 May 1929 at Etunda village in the Omusati Region. He turned 87 on Thursday.
The Otjozondjupa regional Swapo executive committee is organising the birthday celebration along with a bigger committee established by Nujoma.
A number of activities are planned for Friday afternoon, including cultural performances and other forms of entertainment.
A few people who have been a part of Nujoma’s life will also narrate his life story.
The main events, including more cultural performances and handover of gifts, are scheduled for Saturday.
