Moolman does well at junior tennis in Zimbabwe

WINDHOEK, 08 MAY (NAMPA) – Namibian under-14 (U-14) tennis player Gina Moolman held the country’s flag high at the recent African Junior Tennis Circuit matches in Zimbabwe.
The 2016 International Tennis Federation (ITF)/Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) African Junior Tennis Circuit was held in Bulawayo from 02 to 05 May.
The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) said in a statement issued on Friday Moolman beat Zimbabwe’s Charlotte Zhuwakini 6-1,6-0 and Arista Debris 6-1,6-0 to book herself a ticket to the final.
She, however, lost in the final to the South African top seed Rochelle Pienaar 6-2, 6-3.
Other U-14 players on the Namibian team were Diken Dejongh, Luca Monteforte and Megan Lombardt, who found the going tough as they lost in the first round and second round matches in their respective categories.
Johannes Swartz, Joshua Banard, Albertos Brinkman, Hendrina Apollus, Tinashe Mukumba represented Namibia in the U-12 category.
In the under-12 girls’ section, Apollus beat Mhizha Deborah from Zimbabwe 6-7,6-1,6-1. However in the quarterfinals, she lost to the South African fourth seed Suzani Pretorius 6-0,6-1.
Namibia is hoping to do better in the next two matches to be held in Gaborone, Botswana.
