KEETMANSHOOP, 07 MAY (NAMPA) – A 17-year-old girl was reportedly raped by a man known to her in Klein Karas at about 23h00 Wednesday evening.
The suspect, Paul Kennedy, 47, was arrested on Thursday and made a first appearance in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Acting //Kharas Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner David Indongo informed Nampa on Friday that Kennedy was not asked to plead and was denied bail during the hearing.
He said Kennedy is the boyfriend of the girl’s aunt.
The suspect was apparently released from prison a few days before the alleged crime this week after serving time for an unknown transgression.
Indongo said Kennedy was in the process of setting up a church at the Klein Karas settlement, situated near the /Ai-/Ais Hot Springs Resort in the //Kharas Region, telling people he was reformed.
“When the young girl was drunk, Kennedy offered to escort her home, but then took her to the room he shares with the aunt, where he allegedly raped her.”
This is the second teenage girl raped in the //Kharas Region this week.
On Tuesday, a 17-year-old girl was raped in Keetmanshoop.
Indongo said the alleged rapist is known to the police and it is only a matter of time before he is apprehended.
