Two women raped over public holiday

WINDHOEK, 05 MAY (NAMPA) – A 17 year-old girl was allegedly raped while on her way home from church at Keetmanshoop in the Hardap Region on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at about 22h00 at Koppieslaagte in the Tseiblaagte area when an unidentified man allegedly raped the young woman.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s spokesperson Inspector Slogan Matheus informed Nampa on Thursday, the man allegedly approached and dragged her to a nearby house where he raped her.
Matheus said the suspect, who is known in the area, fled the scene and is still at large.
Another case of rape was reported, but at Uis in the Erongo Region, when a man allegedly forced himself onto a 20-year-old woman and sexually violated her.
The suspect allegedly pulled the woman behind a certain house, where he tore her clothes off and had sexual intercourse without her consent.
The suspect, 33, was arrested the same day and is due to appear in court on Friday.
NamPol also recorded one case of murder on Tuesday in the Ohangwena Region.
A man died shortly after arrival at the Oshakati State Hospital after a 22-year-old man at about 20h00 stabbed him in the upper right shoulder with an Okapi knife.
The deceased was identified as Simeon Sackeus, 21.
His next of kin have been informed.
Meanwhile, at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, a 38-yearold man was found dead in his bedroom at about 09h20 on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Hastim Simasiku, a Zambian national, who allegedly went to bed the previous night and was discovered dead the next morning.
“No foul play is suspected at this stage, as there were no signs of physical injury on the body of the deceased,” Matheus said.
He added that a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The deceased's next of kin been informed.
