Police sports championships starting Tuesday

RUNDU, 02 MAY (NAMPA) - The 22nd Namibian Police Force (NamPol) National Police Sports Championships, which sees members of the force from all 14 regions compete in a number of sports disciplines, officially commences on Tuesday.
This years event is taking place at Rundu in the Kavango East Region from 29 April to 08 May 2016.
In 2015, the championships took place in Oshakati in the Oshana Region.
Members of the police force will compete in eight different sports codes.
A street parade was held on Monday from the Sauyemwa informal settlement through the town's central business district to the Rundu Sports Stadium.
All 14 regions were represented in the street procession with members of the police force dressed in red, green, orange, blue, white and black.
NamPol's Commander for the Kavango East Region, Johanna Ngondo said in a media statement issued on Monday the championship also gives police officers a platform to come together and share experiences, which will in turn help in the combating of crime.
The opening ceremony for the championships will be held on Tuesday at 09h00 while the closing ceremony will take place next Sunday at 18h00.
