ONGWEDIVA, 16 SEP (NAMPA) The Oshakati-based sports team of the Namibia Voluntary Involvement Programme (NAMVIP) on Saturday received a sponsorship from Omega Construction cc to participate in the International Cup of Heroes in South Africa.
The sponsorship includes N.dollars 4 000 cash and sporting T-shirts worth N.dollars 6 000.
The Oshakati team consists of 14 young players, 14 officials and two parents, and they will depart on Friday for Pretoria, South Africa for the International Cup of Heroes from 22 to 24 September 2013.
The Norway-originated international organisation called Score is in charge of the International Cup of Heroes.
Score is an international non-profit organisation specialising in community development through sports and recreation.
The Oshakati teams 14 players will participate in netball, volleyball and football. They are also expected to perform cultural activities during the said tournament.
Sports officer of the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture for the Oshana Region, Toini Kasheeta told Nampa during the sponsorship handing-over event here on Saturday evening that the Cup was hosted in Norway for the past six years.
According to Kasheeta, it is the first time the Cup is being hosted outside Norway. She pointed out that Namibia has been sending participants to Norway all those years.
Kasheeta appreciated Omega Constructions sponsorship, and promised that it will be used for the intended purpose.
Although we received your request for sponsorship on a short notice, we decided to sponsor your team on the grounds that you are going to represent Namibia and not only Oshakati, said Ndali Nenkavu, one of the directors of Omega Construction.
The Oshakati team is expected back home on 25 September.
