KATIMA MULILO, 27 APR (NAMPA) – Convicted rapist, Vincent Likoro, is set to return to the Katima Mulilo Regional Court on Thursday to apply for bail while he is appealing his sentence.
Likoro was sentenced to a 10-year jail term in January this year.
The hearing was initially set to start Monday but was postponed to Tuesday because State prosecutor Jatiel Mudamburi was not available. The matter was then scheduled to take place on Thursday after another prosecutor from Windhoek had been identified.
Likoro, who was special advisor to the Swapo-party secretary-general, was convicted of sexually violating a 38-year-old female colleague during an official visit to the Zambezi Region in July 2013.
During trial, the father of 12 children maintained his innocence, saying he had no reason to lie and does not harbour bad feelings towards the complainant.
Likoro, who also served as Swapo regional coordinator for the Kavango Region, was represented by Kennedy Haraseb of Metcalfe Attorneys.
