Two rapes reported in Erongo

SWAKOPMUND, 15 SEP (NAMPA) - A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 39-year-old man at Usakos in the Erongo Region in the early morning hours of Sunday.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s acting Crime Investigations’ Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Detective Inspector Erastus Iikuyu told Nampa on Sunday the incident occurred between midnight and 05h00.
He said according to the incident report the suspect and victim, who is said to be mentally challenged, had allegedly been drinking together before the incident occurred.
Iikuyu said the suspect took the victim to another location and allegedly raped her in his car.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday and remains in police custody.
In a separate incident which occurred in the Kuisebmond residential area of Walvis Bay, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 16-year-old male.
According to Iikuyu, the suspect and accused were at a matric farewell after-party before the incident occurred.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
