WINDHOEK, 19 APR (NAMPA) – As the Swapo party celebrates its 56th anniversary on Tuesday, members were called upon to fight against nepotism, tribalism, corruption and ignorance.
Speaking at a media conference before cutting a cake in celebration of the anniversary here on Tuesday, Swapo-party Secretary for Information and Mobilisation Helmut Angula said Namibians are faced with many social evils.
“It is, therefore, incumbent upon us all, especially the Swapo-party rank and file membership, to unite and to wage a relentless fight against all ills that block or impede our march to total social and economic emancipation.
“The Swapo-party government has already rolled out the road map for the final achievement of our noble objective to achieve social and economic prosperity,” he noted.
Angula made reference to President Hage Geingob’s Harambee Prosperity Project Plan, which he described as a “cruise ship for the total eradication of poverty, ignorance, corruption, nepotism, and tribalism”.
He called on party members to rise beyond sectarian interests and support the ‘cruise ship’, and to ensure is implementation in all sectors and aspects of social and economic development in Namibia.
“We further call upon the membership of the party to remain united and totally committed to the noble goals and objectives set out by the Swapo party.
“We must protect and safe guard by all means possible our hard won freedom and independence.”
Meanwhile, anniversary celebrations will take place in the near future with major events that the party is planning such as the launching of the Swapo-party School.
The long awaited leadership development entity is close to be a reality, said Angula.
The school aims to educate members about politics, the party and the laws of Namibia. To qualify to attend the school, party members should be a supporter for more than 10 years and recommendation should be made according to party structures.
About the registration of the school, Angula stressed that it will be done in due course, and books as well as information technology communication materials were purchased.
“A board of directors will be announced soon as well as other related matters.”
