Man dies in shack fire in Windhoek

WINDHOEK, 17 APR (NAMPA) – A man died in Windhoek’s Ombili settlement after his shack caught fire on Thursday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi said during the weekly crime briefing in Windhoek on Sunday the 42-year-old deceased has been identified as Kauluma Paulus Uusiku.
Uusiku was reportedly burnt beyond recognition after his shack caught fire at around 22h00.
His next of keen have been notified.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and police investigations continue.
Also in Windhoek, a 53-year-old man died after he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and drove into a shack on Saturday.
The accident occurred in the Otjomuise residential area.
“The deceased, Nico Bergh van Zyl drove into a shack in Beijing Street at around 18h30,” Shikwambi said.
It is suspected that Van Zyl might have had an epileptic seizure, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the 61-year-old Johannes Swartbooi died after he reportedly fell off a horse at Tses in the //Kharas Region Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Farm Nuweputz in the Vaalgras area.
He had gone horse riding with a friend and the friend returned to the farm alone, along with Swartbooi’s horse.
A search was conducted and Swartbooi’s body was discovered between 15h00 and 16h00 on Saturday.
Police investigations into the matter are underway.
