ONGWEDIVA, 17 APR (NAMPA) - A 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death before committing suicide at Cham Cham village in the Oshikoto Region on Saturday.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, Crime Investigations Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua said the incident occurred at the Omuhama Gwepandela Cuca-shops Centre at an unknown time.
Netumbo Amutenya Zee Amutenya is said to have stabbed the 28-year-old Ndinelago Vaefeleni several times in the chest and back before hanging himself from the ceiling of one of the cuca-shops.
Both deceased were found this afternoon, and a suicide note was found on the scene, Katjiua said. She did not reveal the content of the note.
The next of kin of the two deceased have been informed and the police at Oshivelo are investigating the matter.
The police are also investigating a culpable homicide after a man died in an accident 18 kilometres (km) outside Tsumeb on Saturday.
Katjiua said the accident occurred at around 15h30 while Dirk de Wee and his four passengers were on their way to Farm Suma, situated some 50km outside Tsumeb in the Otavi area.
They were travelling in a maroon Mazda pick-up with registration N4324T.
It is alleged that De Wee lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle overturned and one of the passengers died, the deputy commissioner said.
The 50-year-old De Wee was admitted to the Lombard Hospital in Tsumeb as he sustained head injuries, while the rest of the passengers sustained slight injuries.
There was a trailer with five cattle hooked up to the vehicle, all of which survived the accident, Katjiua said.
She could not reveal the identity of the deceased as his next of kin were yet to be informed.
