WINDHOEK, 15 APR (NAMPA) - The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) on Friday announced its squad that will play against the Xerox Golden Lions in their second game of the 2016 Currie Cup at the Hage Geingob Stadium on Saturday.
The match against the Lions will be the Welwitschias first home game of the competition and is scheduled to kick off at 15h00.
The Namibians lost their opening game of the Currie Cup by 17 points to 32 against the Toyota Free State XV in Bloemfontein, South Africa last Saturday.
The defeat leaves them with zero points and bottom of the log.
The Lions also lost their opening game of the competition 23-27 against the Border Bulldogs last Saturday but managed to collect a bonus point, which now leaves them ninth on the log standing with one point.
Two changes were made to the Welwitschias' team ahead of Saturday; Hauta Veii and Mahco Prinsloo sustained injuries and will not be available for selection, thus Eagon Cloete (flank) and MP Pretorius (flyhalf) have been brought into the squad to replace the injured players. Shaun du Preez will replace Collen Smith, who moves to the bench.
The first 15 are: Quinton Esterhuizen; Gerhard Lotter; Shaun du Preez; Muniovita Kasiringua; Ruan Ludick; Rohan Kitshoff; Leneve Damens; Roderiques Victor; Arthur Bouwer; Shaun Kaizemi; Russell van Wyk; Daryl de La Harpe; JC Greyling; Malcolm Moore; Johan Tromp; Joe Herman; Collen Smith; Denzil van Wyk; Eagon Cloete; JC Winkler; MP Pretorius; Riaan van Zyl.
The gates will open at 07h30 with primary school rugby starting at 08h00, club rugby from 11h00 and the main match at 15h00.
The NRU registered a national team made up of only local players for the 2016 edition of the Currie Cup.
The tournament will be played from April to October, with the Welwitschias set to play seven games at home and seven in South Africa.
