Swapo's Tjandja dies in head-on collision

RUNDU, 14 APR (NAMPA) - Swapo Party Mobiliser for the Kavango East Region, Eric Tjandja has died.
He was killed in a head-on collision on Wednesday evening at around 19h00, some 65 kilometres west of Rundu in the Kapako Constituency of the Kavango West Region.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Deputy Commissioner in the Kavango West Region, Uaakisa Ndjavera confirmed his death.
The head-on collision involved a white Toyota pick-up of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry with the light brown Toyota double cab vehicle in which Tjandja was the sole occupant.
Ndjavera also confirmed that three people in the government pick-up died instantly, while two others were seriously injured.
By the time Nampa arrived at the scene, Tjandja's body was still stuck in the wreckage of his car, and it took police officials about an hour to remove the body.
Ndjavera could not shed more light on the accident at the time, noting that it was still early to determine how the accident happened.
He could also not reveal the names of the deceased a their next of kin had not yet been informed.
'We have to now arrange for the post-mortem to determine what was the cause of death of the deceased persons after which in the morning we have to come back and reconstruct the scene and see what we can get out of it,' Ndjavera said.
Besides serving as Swapo-party Mobiliser in the region, Tjandja also held the position of Principal of the Rundu Vocational Training College (RVTC).
