WINDHOEK, 11 APR (NAMPA) - Cabinet has approved a 10 per cent water tariff increase for the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) for the 2016/17 financial year.
However, Cabinet deferred proposed increments of 10 per cent for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 financial years, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Tjekero Tweya said during a media briefing here on Monday.
Tweya said the proposal will be reviewed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry in consultation with the Cabinet Committee on Treasury.
Cabinet also approved a shorter notice period for water tariff increases, meaning NamWater is now only required to give one months notice to customers instead of two.
During the 2015/16 financial year, NamWater proposed a 15 per cent bulk water tariff increase to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry.
