WINDHOEK, 12 SEP (NAMPA) - A single mother was brutally murdered when her throat was slit in the Havana informal settlement in Windhoek on Wednesday evening.
The City Police suspect the woman's ex-boyfriend of committing the act.
City Police spokesperson, Superintendent Helena Mootseng told Nampa on Thursday it is not yet clear what led to the man allegedly slitting the 27-year-old woman’s throat.
“It seems there was no argument. There is no indication as to what could have led to him doing this. After he committed the murder by slitting the woman's throat he fled the scene of crime,” she said.
By late Thursday afternoon the suspect was still at large, with Mootseng saying the man had apparently indicated to bystanders on Wednesday night that he might take his own life.
“This murder is yet another indication of how violent our communities have become,” she stated.
The deceased was a single mother to a minor girl, and was from southern Namibia according to neighbours. Her name was being withheld as her next-of-kin were yet to be informed.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
