GOBABIS, 06 APR (NAMPA) - A singing and dancing competition, the first of its kind in Gobabis, is on the cards for talented youth within the Omaheke Region.
The 'Step-up Gobabis' competition is aimed at exposing the talent of the many young people here who otherwise do not have a platform to exhibit their singing and dancing skills.
The event is scheduled for 23 April 2016.
Tucy Katire, one of the event organisers, told Nampa on Tuesday creative people of all ages are welcome to take part in the event.
She said any genre of music is eligible to enter, as long as the entrants can express themselves in it.
The event is also geared towards raising funds for Omaheke Radio, which is expected to hit the airwaves later this year.
“The competition has no age limit and no stringent requirements. But for the dancing part, a group should consist of no more than eight members,” Katire said.
She noted that it is a winner-takes-all competition, in which the winner in the dance category will walk away with N.dollars 1 500 in cash, in addition to a video production from Lazpak Publishing.
In the singing category, N.dollars 1 000 is up for grabs, plus one track production from Omaheke Radio.
“We are planning on hosting this event annually to keep the youth off the streets,” said Katire.
