WINDHOEK, 06 APR (NAMPA) – Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit Rundu Chiefs Football Club Coach, John Sikerete says his team is well aware of the situation they are currently in and will go into their weekend’s fixtures to collect maximum points.
Rundu Chiefs will go into Round 25 and 26 of the NPL, 13th on the log and level on 27 points with another Rundu-based outfit, United Stars.
Stars are in the relegation zone in 14th position, but have played more games than their hometown neighbours.
On Saturday, Rundu Chiefs will play Blue Waters who are currently seventh on the log with 35 points from 24 games, while on Sunday they will face another coastal side - Eleven Arrows, who are 10th on the log with 30 points.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, Sikerete said his team has prepared well for the crucial matches over the weekend and they need the maximum points if they are to avoid relegation.
“We are not going to put ourselves under any pressure because we prepared well - from the executive members of the team to the players. Everyone is well aware of what is at stake when we step onto the field on Saturday,” he said.
He added that having all three teams from Rundu fighting relegation is sad news for the region, but he is hopeful his side will survive the axe.
“We just need six points over the weekend. With the remaining four games we can only collect a point or so and we will not talk about being relegated.
“People in the region have been talking on the sports radio show on the Rukavango national broadcaster, saying people should come to the stadium in numbers and rally behind the team over the weekend. Hearing such conversations on radio really gave us confidence to win those two games and remain in the league next season,” said Sikerete.
He added that his team is currently injury-free apart from their defender Sylvester Nzamene, who picked up an injury in the last game they played against Young Chiefs from Oshakati two weeks ago. He is however hopeful the defender will be ready for Saturday.
