WINDHOEK, 01 APR (NAMPA) - The DTA of Namibia will hold its central committee meeting next month, during which the party’s secretary-general, deputy secretary-general and vice-chairperson will be elected.
This was revealed by DTA President McHenry Venaani at the start of a three-day DTA councillor workshop in the capital on Friday.
The workshop is being attended by 41 DTA local authority councillors and two regional authority councillors from all over the country.
Venaani did not specify when next month the meeting will take place.
He said the current DTA central committee will be the last of its kind as the party is moving towards amending its constitution.
“We are going to have an elected central committee this time as opposed to the delegate-oriented central committee,” he noted.
Venaani said he would push for more female representation in the party’s central committee so key positions in the party are held by women.
“We should not pay lip service to gender promotion,” he said.
Elma Dienda, who has been acting as the party's secretary-general (SG) since the suspension of the former SG Vincent Kanyetu last year, told Nampa she will not contest any of the positions.
The vacant vice-chairperson position will also be contested. The party’s vice-chairperson Samuel 'Sampie' Cloete died from a heart attack last October.
