Three suicides reported in Omusati

WINDHOEK, 28 MAR (NAMPA) – Three women died in apparent suicides in the Omusati Region over the Easter long weekend.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus said during a media briefing on Monday, a 74-year-old pensioner allegedly took her own life by hanging herself in her sleeping hut on Thursday in the Ohongo village.
The village is situated in the Okalongo Constituency.
The incident occurred after the pensioner had dinner with her children and went into her room to sleep. The woman hung herself from the roof with a piece of rope which broke, causing the elderly woman to fall.
Her daughter heard the bang and went to investigate, only to find her mother dead.
The deceased was identified as Klemencia Tamute.
No suicide note was left behind.
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old woman is suspected to have committed suicide by drowning herself in a pond at the Otapaela village at Outapi on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Souama Ndatila Kleophas, allegedly went missing on Saturday at about 19h00. Her body was discovered the following day at 16h00.
“A text message found stored on the deceased's cellphone reads that she was going to throw herself into the pond because people don't like her anymore,” Matheus said.
The deceased's next of kin have been informed.
At Olunkavu village in the Ongongo Constituency, Kaino Kayiitulwa Uugwanga, 37, allegedly committed suicide on Saturday at about 18h00 in her father's house.
The deceased allegedly hanged herself with a rope in her sleeping shack, but did not leave a suicide note behind.
Her next of kin have been informed.
