RUNDU, 27 MAR (NAMPA) - The Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) has donated sporting equipment to the Kavango East Region’s three Namibia Premier League (NPL) sides - Rundu Chiefs, United Stars and Julinho Sporting.
The items worth N.dollars 230 000 include football kits; water bottles; travel bags; golf T-shirts for technical staff and T-shirts for the players while traveling.
Another team that benefited from the donation is newcomer in the NPL, Young Chiefs Football Club (FC) from Oshakati in the Oshana Region.
The company’s spokesperson Herman Ngasia handed over the items to Kavango East Governor Samuel Mbambo, who in turn handed it over to representatives of the four teams during The Namibian Newspaper Cup welcoming dinner held in Rundu Friday evening.
“We want these four teams to remain in the premier league, hence our support and donation of these items,” Ngasia said.
Representatives of the four teams appealed to the local business community to emulate Nored’s example by also investing in the game of football.
Also speaking at the gala dinner was the Editor of The Namibian newspaper, Tangeni Amupadhi, who urged the business fraternity to seriously consider supporting regional teams that are participating in the Newspaper Cup.
Amupadhi noted that the Zambezi Region’s team did not receive any support from the business community in the region.
“I was embarrassed to see players of the Zambezi Region still using the T-shirts that we donated to them some years ago in this tournament,” he said.
