OTJIWARONGO, 11 SEP (NAMPA) - A 34-year-old woman was kicked several times before allegedly being raped by two men who had escorted her home from a shebeen at Otjituuo on Tuesday morning.
Otjituuo is situated 60 kilometres east of Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.
According to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha, the alleged rape occurred shortly after 02h00 on Tuesday.
“We were informed that after the shebeens had closed at around midnight on Tuesday, the woman was being escorted back to her house by two men known to her in the area of Otjituuo,” Mbeha told Nampa on Wednesday.
The woman was kicked until her right leg was broken before the alleged rape was carried out, and the alleged attackers fled the scene.
The police took the victim to the Grootfontein State Hospital, where it was confirmed that her right leg had been broken. She has since been transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek, where she is receiving medical attention.
The police on Tuesday afternoon arrested a 20-year-old suspect in the matter and he is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
They are however still searching for the other suspect who is apparently in his 30s.
