WINDHOEK, 24 MAR (NAMPA) - The Minister of Works and Transport, Alpheus !Naruseb has called on Namibians to ensure an accident-free and peaceful Easter weekend by abiding to road safety rules.
Speaking in the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday, !Naruseb said Namibians should make the 2016 Easter weekend a “turnaround weekend - one in which carnage is reduced on national roads.”
“As the minister responsible for road safety in Namibia, I strongly appeal to all road users to be patient, considerate and extra vigilant in their journeys. It all depends on each and every road user,” he said.
!Naruseb noted that the overwhelming majority of road crashes are due to human error and therefore it is humanly possible to minimise accidents in Namibia.
He therefore called on road users to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and reckless driving.
According to the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund statistics of last year, about 21 people died in accidents between 25 March and 06 April 2015.
