WINDHOEK, 17 MAR (NAMPA) - The Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) recently received a boost of N.dollars 190 000 from Bank Windhoek for the 2016 volleyball season.
A Bank Windhoek media statement issued on Wednesday said the sponsorship will go towards hosting the 2016 regional leagues that kicked off in February, as well as a development programme.
The sponsorship will also be used to host the 2016 Doc Tournament at The Dome in Swakopmund on 01 and 02 April 2016 and the Bank Windhoek NVF Cup series taking place from mid-August to mid-October 2016.
Last year's sponsorship from the bank was N.dollars 80 000.
Bank Windhoek's Communications Practitioner for Stakeholder Engagement Sanet de Waal told Nampa on enquiry Wednesday the increase in volleyball development in the country prompted them to double this year's sponsorship.
“We noticed and recognised the great job the NVF is doing in the development of this sport in the country and decided to increase this year's sponsorship ,” said De Waal.
NVF President Joel Matheus was quoted in the statement as saying: “This truly is history in the making. Never before in the history of Namibian volleyball have we received such a big sponsorship”.
The NVF governs and manages all forms of volleyball and beach volleyball at all levels nationwide.
A total of 65 teams are playing in the volleyball league countrywide.
