Elephant tusks and rhino horns confiscated

WINDHOEK, 13 MAR (NAMPA) – A 54-year-old man was Saturday arrested in the Mwitjiku Village in the Kavango East Region in connection with the possession of two elephant tusks.
The man was arrested at about 05h00, said Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi during a media briefing here on Sunday.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In a similar case, four people were Saturday arrested at different places in connection with the possession of rhino horns.
They were apprehended during a joint operation of NamPol’s Protected Resources Division and NamPol's Serious Crime Unit over the past weeks.
Two men were arrested on Friday at the Greenwell Matongo area in Windhoek, while two others were arrested at Opuwo in the Kunene Region on Saturday.
The four suspects are due to appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
