OTJIWARONGO, 12 MAR (NAMPA) - A Grade Seven learner died on Friday after he fell from a donkey and pierced his one eye with an iron rod in the Tsumkwe settlement.
Donkeys and donkey carts are common means of transport in the Tsumkwe Constituency.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Saturday said the learner has been identified as 15-year-old Murambi Jatutjiri.
His close relatives have been informed of his death.
Mbeha told Nampa Jatutjiri was riding a donkey with his friends on the Tsumkwe Senior Secondary School playground when he allegedly fell to the ground while holding an iron rod in his hand.
He used the rod to control the movement of the donkey.
Mbeha said the iron rod pierced Jatutjiri’s one eye upon landing on the ground.
Jatutjiri’s brother, who was riding another donkey at the same playground, took him to the Tsumkwe Clinic.
A nurse at the clinic declared Jatutjiri dead upon arrival there.
Police investigations continue.
