Mentally ill girl raped at Aranos

WINDHOEK, 08 SEP (NAMPA) – A 10-year-old mentally ill girl was raped by an unknown suspect at Aranos on Tuesday.
The Head of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said at the weekly crime briefing here on Sunday the Aranos police are investigating a case of rape after the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police two days after the incident occurred.
It is alleged that an aunt of the girl – her mother’s sister - raised the alarm on Thursday after she found the child limping.
No arrests have been made yet and investigations continue.
In an unrelated incident, the police in Gobabis opened an inquest after three children died after a shack caught fire on Saturday at about 19h30 in the Epako residential area. It is alleged that two men were busy filling up a generator with petrol when it caused a spark. This resulted in the shack catching fire, and the children were trapped inside.
The children’s mothers were not in the shack at the time of the incident, they were treated for shock at the Gobabis State Hospital.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
A matric farewell after-party ended in a tragedy in Lüderitz when a 19-year-old was stabbed to death at 05h00 on Saturday morning.
It is alleged that a quarrel broke out between the deceased and a 20-year-old suspect. The deceased was stabbed three times in the chest with a hunting knife. The suspect will appear in court at the town on Monday.
A case of stock theft was reported to the police in Mariental after 28 heads of cattle valued at N.dollars 240 000 was stolen from Farm Kachas in the Mariental district on Friday.
The incident took place at an unknown time and the cattle have not yet been recovered.
Police investigations continue.
