WALVIS BAY, 08 SEP (NAMPA) – A 42-year-old man drowned at the Namdock area here on Friday after the boat he had been in capsized.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa told Nampa on Sunday the deceased was in the boat with two of his co-workers.
She explained that the incident occurred after the crew tried to anchor the boat by sinking a ‘block’ into the ocean, which caused the boat to overturn. The material which the block was made of could not be established.
Kashuupulwa said the boat’s content fell onto the deceased, pushing him into the water.
He was rushed to the Welwitschia Hospital, but died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Kashuupulwa said the name of the deceased was being withheld as his next of kin was yet to be informed of his death.
He was reportedly employed by a South African company, Subtech Namibia Diving and Marine.
