De Beers Namibia Holdings have entered a partnership agreement with the University of Namibia which will see the tertiary institution’s Southern campus receiving N$10million over ten years.
The contribution from De Beers, is in line with Government’s quest to provide assistance to the tertiary education sector with aim of creating a knowledge based society.
The initiative will see 87 students in various fields of study benefiting from the financial assistance.
Chief Executive of the De Beers Group Phillipe Mellier speaking during the company’s meeting with the President Hage Geingob at the State House this morning said, “De Beers has a proud history of supporting education programmes wherever we operate. For example our joint venture companies, NamDeb and Deb Marine Namibia continue to support Namibian students with bursary programmes, mostly in the field science and technology.”
He added that their company is honoured to work with UNAM in improving educational delivery as there is no substitute for knowledge. TM
