ONGWEDIVA, 23 FEB (NAMPA) – Sports Coaches Outreach (SCORE) Namibia will host its third coaching camp at Oshakati from Saturday.
The training, which is being offered in collaboration with Adidas, will run for a week.
A media statement issued by SCORE Namibia programme manager, Raymond Vries said the two-part camp will see Adidas volunteers train Namibian Volunteer Involvement Programme (NAM-VIP) volunteers in project management; community service; event planning and the role volunteerism plays in community development, amongst other things.
NAM-VIP is one of SCORE’s flagship programmes and deals with the leadership development aspect of the programme.
Twenty-five volunteers from Mariental, Keetmanshoop, Oshakati, Rundu, Kayengona Kayengona in the Kavango West Region and Windhoek are expected to participate.
These volunteers will then be expected to coach about 200 children in football, volleyball, netball and badminton, as well as to lead sessions on raising awareness around health and environmental issues affecting Namibians.
“The 200 children include learners from three schools - Okandjengedi Combined School; Oshakati West Primary School and Emono Combined School,” Vries said.
SCORE is a non-profit organisation that works across communities in Namibia, using sport to bring about sustainable community development, individual empowerment and social transformation.
In 2014 and 2015, the camp took place in Rundu and Kayengona respectively.
