Swimming championship taking place this week

WINDHOEK, 24 FEB (NAMPA) - The Bank Windhoek Namibia National Swimming Championship will take place at the Olympia municipal pool in Windhoek from Thursday.
The event ends on Sunday.
A media statement availed to Nampa by Bank Windhoek on Monday said swimmers will on Thursday compete in the 400 metre (m) Individual Medley; 200m Butterfly; 800m Freestyle (women) and 1 500m (men) events.
On Friday the championship will continue with the 50m Butterfly; 400m Freestyle as well as nine to 10-year-old 100m Breaststroke; open 200m Breaststroke and all 100m Backstroke events.
The official opening takes place on Saturday at 08h00, followed by the 50m Breaststroke; 200m Backstroke; 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly events.
During the afternoon session starting at 14h00 there will be 50m Backstroke; 200m Freestyle; 100m Breaststroke and a number of relays.
Sunday will see the 50m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley take place, while the relay swimmers will conclude the championship.
The president of the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU), Bettina Steffen was quoted in the statement as saying 145 swimmers are expected to compete in the event.
“We are looking forward to some great action from our senior swimmers,a s well as our juniors,” said Steffen.
Some of the swimmers expected to take part include Daniela Lindemeier, Philip Seidler and Alexander Skinner in the senior category; while in the junior category Corne le Roux, Ronan Wantenaar, Heleni Stergiadis, Joanne Liebenberg and Mikah Burger are anticipated to take part.
