WINDHOEK, 12 FEB (NAMPA) – Three law students from the University of Namibia (UNAM) received bursaries from Legal Shield for the 2016 academic year.
Speaking at the handing over of the bursaries here on Thursday, Kevin Anderson, chief operating officer of Trustco Group Holdings’ legal department, said giving bursaries to deserving students is part of the company’s social responsibility.
“We should not just pay lip service to the idea, but take the time not only to provide financial assistance but to provide the assistance that produces well balanced individuals ready to shape the future,” he said.
Legal Shield is a subsidiary of Trustco Insurance.
Also, speaking at the event was bursary recipient Karel Gaeb, who thanked Trustco for giving him the bursary. He said he is eager to make a meaningful difference in society by making legal services accessible to all.
“There are many ways in which one can achieve this, for example by providing legal services in instances where client have prospects of success but have shallow pockets,” said Gaeb.
The other two recipients were Pius Iikwambi, a final-year law student and August Nuunyango, who is currently in her third year.
Each of the three students received a bursary worth N.dollars 25 000.
