OSHIHAU, 08 FEB (NAMPA) – Several houses and a building belonging to businessman Johannes Amashili were damaged in a thunderstorm at Oshihau village in the Omusati Region Friday night.
The business, known as Okapale Trading, consists of a shop, depot and a bar.
During the storm, the roof of the five-room building was blown off, leaving goods inside exposed to the rain.
The thunderstorm also uprooted trees and destroyed a number of traditional fences at the village.
Amashili told Nampa on Saturday the losses he suffered forced him to suspend trading until repairs to the building are completed.
Linus Negonga, one of Amashili’s employees, was asleep in the building and escaped the incident without injuries.
“I think the building was struck by lightning because I was woken up by heavy thunder and saw bright light all over the building afterwards,” Negonga said.
Oshihau headman, Ismael Shikale told this news agency two donkeys also died at the village after being struck by lightning.
The western parts of the Omusati Region received good rains over the weekend, rendering many roads inaccessible, especially in the Onesi Constituency.
