WINDHOEK, 07 FEB (NAMPA) - Namibia Football Association (NFA) Womens Super League strikers Sara Anstino and Elina Uulumbu are some of the new players called up for the Brave Gladiators squad that will play Zambia.
Namibia will face neighbours Zambia in the 2016 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Womens Cup of Nations qualifiers. The 2016 CAF Womens Cup of Nations will be held in Cameroon.
The two called up players who ply their trade for V-Power Angels (Anstino) and UNAM Bokkies (Uulumbu) will join a 27-woman squad for training.
A media statement availed to Nampa on Sunday by the NFA said Brave Gladiators coach Jacqui Shipanga last week started preparations for the all important away first leg, first round match which will take place in Zambia on 05 March.
We started training from Tuesday to Friday and we will continue from Monday to 19 February before we announce the final 18 ladies to go to Zambia by 24 February for final preparations.
We have played Zambia over the years at various tournaments and we want a positive start away from home. We cannot afford to lose to Zambia in these qualifiers. We played at home last time out in the CAF Championship and now we need to prove to the world that we can qualify as well, the statement quoted Shipanga as saying.
The statement added that Batista Kasume of Galz & Goals and National Under-17 number one is also drafted into the team to compete for places against the likes of Agnes Kauzuu and Novata Paulus. Another Usnder-17 player in the training squad is the combative Asteria Angula who is expected to push Memory Ngonda for a place on the trip to Zambia in midfield.
Zambia will host Namibia on 05 March, with the return leg scheduled for 18 March at 16h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. The winner will play Tanzania or Zimbabwe in the second round and final round of qualification.
