WINDHOEK, 31 JAN (NAMPA) – Two cases of rape of minors were recorded by the police over the past week.
Namibia Police Force (NamPol) Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said at a media briefing on Sunday a 20-year-old man was arrested after allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl on Friday at the Epako settlement in Gobabis in the Omaheke Region.
It is reported that the suspect and the victim were heading to a shop when the suspect forced the victim to a stop behind the old abattoir at the settlement. He then forced himself on her. The victim returned home and reported the incident to her mother who then alerted the police. The suspect was arrested. Police investigations continue.
In the other rape case, a 41-year-old man was arrested last week Monday after he allegedly repeatedly raped a girl, now 12 years old, over a period of two years in Rundu. It is alleged that the incidents took place in the Chotto settlement between the years 2014 and 2015. The now-pregnant girl informed her parents who alerted the police.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on 25 April 2016. Police investigations continue.
