Soldier shoots self at Katima

WINDHOEK, 31 JAN (NAMPA) – An off-duty soldier allegedly shot and killed himself with an AK47 rifle at the Mpacha Millitary Base in Katima Mulilo on Saturday.
Namibian Police Force Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said at a media briefing on Sunday that the deceased, Rinald Rimaro Goagoseb, 27, was earlier that day rescued while attempting to slit his wrists with a broken bottle.
His next of kin have been informed. No suicide note was left behind and police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, the Rundu Police is investigating a hit and run case after an unknown woman sustained serious injuries when she was hit by a vehicle with an Angolan registration number on Saturday.
The incident took place nearby V6 Bar along the Trans-Caprivi Highway. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene and has not yet been apprehended.
The victim sustained serious injuries on her left leg and was admitted to the Rundu State Hospital.
Shikwambi has called on members of the public with information about the incident to report to the Rundu Police Station.
In another incident, the Karibib Police is investigating a murder case after Edward Oscar Motinga, 37, died following a fight on Friday at Club Paradise in that town.
It is alleged that the victim fell on a cement floor and died instantly. A 21-year-old suspect fled the scene but was later handed over to the police by family members.
Police investigations continue.
