WINDHOEK, 03 SEP (NAMPA) – A Chinese delegation led by member of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Political Bureau Sun Zhengcai on Monday paid a courtesy call on President Hifikepunye Pohamba at State House.
Welcoming the delegation, Pohamba praised the Chinese Government for the support it has given to the people of Namibia over the past five decades or so.
“I want to welcome you and your delegation to Namibia, a country which was liberated with the assistance rendered by the Communist Party of China (CPC) to the Swapo-Party,” he stated.
Pohamba noted that the high-level visit of former Swapo Party Secretary-General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana to China last year and Sun’s current visit to Namibia demonstrate the political will of both countries to strengthen the good relations which exist between China and Namibia.
“This relationship is not only party to party, but also government to government and people to people,” Pohamba reiterated.
He furthermore expressed his happiness with the fact that China and Namibia also interact at international forums to discuss international issues.
“The hosting of the China-Namibia Youth Forum in Namibia three years ago was a clear demonstration of the need to empower the youth of the two countries, and to involve them in the shaping of their own political and socio-economic future,” he added.
The Chinese delegation arrived in Namibia on Saturday, and held talks with current Swapo-Party Secretary-General Nangolo Mbumba at the weekend.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on former president Dr Sam Nujoma at his residence in Klein Windhoek on Sunday.
They returned to China on Monday afternoon.
