Two shot at Katima Mulilo

WINDHOEK, 24 JAN (NAMPA) – Two people were shot by an unknown suspect near a bar at New Compound in Katima Mulilo on Saturday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus informed a media briefing here on Sunday they have been identified as Esther Halweendo, 27, and Simon Shikeso, 23.
The incident occurred at about 02h00 when the suspect allegedly shot Halweendo in the stomach and Shikeso in the legs.
It is alleged that the two victims were walking from the bar when the suspect emerged from the darkness and fired at them with a shotgun.
Both victims were admitted to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital where Halweendo is in a critical condition. Shikeso is reportedly stable.
No arrests have been made in connection with the matter yet.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on Saturday morning at Ontanga village in the Oshiteyi constituency.
The deceased, identified as Johannes Itope, a member of NamPol allegedly hanged himself with a rope from a tree in his neighbour’s field in that area.
Matheus said Itope, who was employed in NamPol’s installation unit, left for northern Namibia over the weekend for a funeral.
It is not known why he committed suicide as no suicide note was left behind.
