ONGWEDIVA, 23 JAN (NAMPA) The Namibian Students Scholarship and Bursaries Trust (NSSBT) is to host its third fundraising gala dinner in the Omusati Region this month.
Founder and Chairperson, Edward Gabriel told Nampa in a telephonic interview on Tuesday, that the event will be held at the Omusati Regional Council Hall in Outapi Town on the 30th of this month.
The NSSBT fundraising gala dinner is aimed at raising funds to assist needy students with bursaries and scholarships, Gabriel explained.
According to him, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila will be the main speaker during the envisaged gala dinner.
The NSSBT was established last year in July before its official launch by former President Hifikepunye Pohamba at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on the 5th of December 2015.
The immediate objective of the trust, Gabriel said is particularly to assist students who are from a poor financial background with bursaries and scholarships for them to develop skills and contribute to the development of Namibia.
Beneficiaries of the NSSBT bursaries and scholarships initiative are anticipated to further their studies at local tertiary institutions and within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The organisation will sponsor its first students as from August 2016.
NSSBT will put much emphasis into experts in the fields of health, law, engineering, science and technology and natural science and marine resources management, Gabriel pointed out.
He went on to say the NSSBT would also offer bursaries and scholarships towards students who want to further their studies in other fields that are in demand for the development of the country.
The first NSSBT fundraising gala dinner took place at the Bennies Entertainment Park and Lodge in Ongwediva also last year on the 3rd of October.
Gabriel noted close to N.dollars 200 000 had been collected during the first and second fundraising gala dinners.
