Blood donations decline

The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS) urges people to donate blood as Namibia currently does not have a sufficient blood supply and donations have declined steadily since the beginning of the New Year.

“The supply is critically low on average we need 135 donations a day; however we have only been receiving approximately 85 donations. This has resulted in 500 fewer donations for the month. In particular blood type O positive and O negative is required. We are making an urgent appeal to the public to donate blood”, Zita Tobin of NamBTS said.

Individuals interested in donating blood must be older than 16 years, weigh more than 50kg, lead a sexually safe lifestyle and enjoy general good health.

Donations can happen at:

• 35 Tal Street – 07h00-16h00, Windhoek.
• United House Building, Independence Avenue from 08h30-16h00
• Swakopmund Centre 13:00-18:00 (Monday’s only)
• Walvis Bay Centre 13:00-18:00 (Tuesday’s only)
