OTJIWARONGO, 11 JAN (NAMPA) – A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her 32-year-old uncle at the Umulunga residential area in Grootfontein over the weekend.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Naukalemo Andreas, a detective of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, told Nampa on Monday the suspect’s name is known, but it cannot be released as he is yet to appear in court.
Andreas said the man and his niece went to a nearby bar on Saturday afternoon, returned home the same evening and each went to their bedrooms.
However, at approximately 02h00 on Sunday morning, the woman woke up because her newborn baby cried.
“She woke up to tend to the baby only to find herself naked,” Andreas said.
The woman told the police that her uncle could have raped her as he had been lying next to her and he then started getting dressed.
She then alerted the police, who took her to the Grootfontein State Hospital for medical examinations.
The man was arrested shortly after.
He is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations continue.
